The Tales of the Uncanny
"Love had wakened in his heart of clay…"
The Golem (Paul Wegener) becomes enraptured with Rabbi’s beautiful daughter, Miriam (Lyda Salmonova).
The still comes from 1920 German silent film “The Golem: How He came into the World”, a prequel to the 1915 film titled “The Golem" (sadly that one’s lost, only few minutes of footage surviving).
All three movies from the “Golem series” (the third one being another lost film called, “The Golem and the Dancer”) were created by the same director and script writer, Paul Wegener who also starred as the title monster.
